Common Chiropractic Conditions

Treatment of common chiropractic conditions might seem quite open ended. Our professionals here at Springs Chiropractic take pride in having the ability to help heal many ailments normal people suffer from daily. Many people don't realize that these typical, normal ailments they suffer from can actually be cured or healed by our chiropractic treatments and therapies. Sometimes, it's actually better to come see us before a general practitioner since we have more personalized treatment options for such issues. Surprising to many, Springs Chiropractic can treat all of the following "common conditions" with our chiropractic practices:

Allergies

Many chiropractic treatments can help reduce the severity and frequency of typical allergies in order to help suffering decrease. Chiropractic allergy treatments do not work in the same way medical treatments like an anti-histamine, but it can allow your body to better equip and defend itself to fight against allergies. Allergies are a reaction by your immune system to an allergen, resulting in sneezing, coughing, congestion, hives, rashes, or in severe cases, seizure and anaphylactic shock. All of these symptoms are caused by the histamines your body's immune system creates in an attempt to protect your body against outside allergens. Not only can this be aided with medicine, it can also be decreased in severity by spinal adjustments.

When your spine is misaligned it can impinge on the body's nervous system.  When your nervous system is not functioning properly and under stress, your immune system cannot work at an optimal level to protect you from outside ailments. Chiropractors work with the nervous system  in order to relieve any stress on the nerves by aligning the spine.  This allows the immune system to work at a higher, more optimal level, making it easier for the human body to fight off infections while recognizing allergens.  When your immune system recognizes allergens properly, it won't overreact, or at least won't react as severely to them, like it does when a person suffers from allergies.

Spinal Disc Problems
Chiropractic treatments are known to help with spinal disc issues many people suffer from. Mechanically, intervertebral discs are positioned between the vertebrae in the spine, with the outside of a disc made from cartilage and the center a jelly like solution. As many already know, these discs serve many purposes for the human body, including allowing movement of the spine, acting as shock absorbers and creating space between the vertebrae for typical functionality. The gelatinous middle allows the disc to compress and expand for all levels of impact or movement.  When trauma occurs to the spine, this injury can cause the discs to be herniated, bulge, become displaced (slipped disc), or even rupture as a result.  All spinal injuries can usually be treated here at Springs Chiropractic, depending on the overall trauma level.

Trauma or direct injury to the spine isn't the only cause or spinal pain or injury. Unfortunately, as we get older, the discs in our backs can begin to weaken and dehydrate.  These issues or conditions can put extra, unwanted pressure on the nerves around the spine and cause severe discomfort or pain. Age related disc problems are issue we can treat in one of our two local Colorado Springs offices and suggest prior to surgery for such injuries.  In many cases, you can experience relief from these conditions  just through chiropractic treatment alone and not have to waste precious money and time on spinal surgery. By properly aligning the spine, pressure can be relieved on nerves and on the discs themselves, which will reduce and hopefully eliminate your pain and discomfort in order to get back to living your normal lifestyle.

Whiplash

Whiplash is a common injury for people involved in car accidents.  When a car is struck from behind or collides with another object, it causes the neck to snap back and forth violently, which causes the muscles and ligaments in the neck to overextend, leading to strains and/or tears.  This injury is referred to as soft tissue damage and can cause stiffness and soreness for the person for many days post accident. Whiplash can also cause structural damage to the human body, such as misaligned vertebrae, herniated, bulging or ruptured discs, or even nerve damage due to the over-extension of the neck during the violent accident.

Chiropractic treatments can help with both soft tissue and structural damage injuries from a severe car accident or other type of accident. Spinal adjustments and alignments can be performed specifically for those who have been in car accidents suffering from whiplash because of the kind of techniques needed for those specific injury treatments.  Typically, the pressure on the discs and nerves of a whiplash patient is released when the spine is returned to its proper, normal alignment. A chiropractic massage can also be used to help relieve the pain and discomfort from soft tissue injuries like these. Our whiplash experts here at Springs Chiropractic know what they are doing when it comes to severe neck and spinal injuries from car accidents, so you can trust their judgement on each patient's injury and truly believe in the treatment options they suggest.

Osteoarthritis or Arthritis

Unconventionally, a condition on a joint level like osteoarthritis can definitely be treated by a chiropractor. Arthritis is a condition that is caused by the wearing down of the cartilage between joints, typically in major joints areas like the knees, hips, back, neck, and hands/wrist. Arthritis can be extremely painful and can cause the affected areas to not function properly, if at all in some cases. Osteoarthritis, or arthritis, in one area of the body can cause arthritis or other problems in a different joint area. For example, if you have arthritis in your left knee, you may compensate for this by putting more pressure on your right side, leading to right hip problems. This almost acts a spiral affect on the human body and is something you simply cannot go without treating.

Like many other ailments, pain killers can cause temporary relief from pain and discomfort, but they truly are not a long term solution from something like this. Chiropractic treatments for osteoarthritis can alleviate pain by releasing pressure on the nervous system. Our professional chiropractic arthritis treatments can also restore proper joint movement in such troubled areas, as well as help ensure that proper motion is used so that further injury isn't caused to other parts of your body.  We aren't just concerned with the affected area, but rather the entire body as a whole since this common condition typically does spread somewhere else when mistreated. Our therapists here at Springs Chiropractic aim to restore and maintain proper movement and functionality to increase an overall well being of every patient who comes in with arthritis issues. We can help you with osteoarthritis.

Joint Dysfunction
When joints become stiff or full movement is restricted, this a something us chiropractors call joint dysfunction. This common condition may be caused by an injury, poor posture, overuse/underuse of a specific joint, muscle imbalance, or other like factors. Similarly to arthritis, joint dysfunction can cause pain in the joint and surrounding muscles, causing problems in other parts of the body due to overcompensation. This is precisely why we believe in joint dysfunction chiropractic therapy since our methods of treatment hone in on the problem areas as well as the possible surrounding "resonating" areas.

Specifically, one common form of joint dysfunction is called sacroiliac joint dysfunction. This occurs where the base of the spine meets the pelvis and is known to cause severe low back pain which prohibits movement.  Unfortunately, this dysfunctional condition is often misdiagnosed due to symptoms being  similar to sciatica or a herniated disc. Your professional chiropractors here at Springs Chiropractic can properly diagnose this condition and provide long lasting relief.  With specific adjustments for affected joints, the results can return proper mobility and relieve pain for anyone with joint dysfunction or joint pain.  If the chronic common condition of joint dysfunction hinders you,  don't wait, give our lovely staff a call today to book a life changing appointment.

Neck/Back Pain
Neck and back pain is not something to take lightly, especially if it affects your day to day activities. Pain along the spinal column in the neck or back is usually caused by subluxations or misalignments of vertebrae, which pushes excess pressure on nerves. This small misalignment can be more than just a light throb and if left untreated, these subluxations can cause larger, more extreme muscle spasms and increased pain. This is precisely why our two Colorado Springs chiropractic offices treat neck and back pain. Chiropractic adjustments can properly align your spine so that this excess pressure on your joints and nerves can be released. Our neck and back pain treatment sessions are a direct treatment for the cause of the pain, not just a temporary relief, like many pain relievers or topical massages provide.  If you are experiencing back or neck pain, give us a call or visit us today.

Headaches
Although many people believe that headaches are caused by simple things such as loud noise, exhaustion, or just from being too stressed out, there are actually other medical reasons as to why headaches come on. While those are all still major factors that may lead to headaches, the direct cause of these is  indeed tightness in the neck and shoulders.  This unfortunate tightness can cause misalignments in the vertebrae of your neck which results in  minor to severe pain. Surprisingly, 80% of all headaches have been found to originate from the neck. Our professional Colorado Springs chiropractors have many years of practice on headache treatments and have a very positive track record with success stories with treating them. Normally, with a typical cervicogenic (neck origin) headache, a client usually feels pain starting at the base of the skull, which ultimately radiates further throughout the body like into the temples, eyeballs, and forehead. Massage treatments of the neck and shoulder muscles can release tension, but a chiropractic adjustment can realign the vertebrae in your neck, fixing the problem from the actual source of pain. Let us help eliminate the cause of your daily headaches for long term instances, instead of just with temporary relief from the problematic symptoms.

Sciatica
Pain radiating along the sciatic nerve, which runs down one or both legs from the lower back, is known as a condition called Sciatica. Sciatica is a common condition that results from irritation to the sciatic nerve.  Bulging discs, muscle spasms, and spinal subluxations, can all cause increased pressure on the sciatic nerve, which unfortunately causes pain, numbness, and weakness in the lower back and leg. This condition typically affects only one side of the body but definitely isn't comfortable experience. With the proper diagnosis from a professional, this ailment can be treated and in a timely manner. The chiropractors here at Springs Chiropractic are very familiar with Sciatica and can quickly diagnose the condition and create an effective treatment plan. If sciatica is something you suffer from and you aren't currently seeking treatment for it, please don't suffer any longer, we can help!

Pinched Nerve

When a nerve is being squeezed or compressed unnaturally, this is called a "pinched nerve" and is commonly caused by spinal misalignments, bulging or herniated discs, or other factors.  Just like some of the above common conditions, the increased pressure on the nerve causes severe inflammation, pain, and sometimes even extreme muscle spasms. The only way to treat a pinched nerve is simply done by relieving that unwanted pressure in order to alleviate pain. A professional chiropractic examination can reveal the cause of the pain, while an adjustment treatment can relieve the pain by properly aligning the spine. Pinched nerves are not fun to deal with on a daily basis and we see several patients daily with pinched nerve issues. These are fortunately very treatable with the proper chiropractic therapy.

Carpal Tunnel Syndrome
If you are someone who is constantly on a computer and have recently noticed random numbness or tingling in your hands, you may suffer from something call carpal tunnel syndrome. Unfortunately, typing is a motion that, when performed repetitively and with poor posture, can cause these unpleasant symptoms. Typical symptoms include pain, numbness, weakness, or a burning sensation in the hands or lower arm areas. Since our nervous system is just a large spiderweb intertwining throughout our bodies, nerves run from one place all the way to another, causing the relocation of pain even if it is far in space from the root source. As an example, the nerves in our fingertips travel through the wrist, up the arm, and into the neck, so if an issue arises in the finger tips on a nerve level, it typically can be predicted to spread further up the hand and arm.  Fortunately for our professional chiropractors, the spine is the center of the nervous system, which is our specialty. Pain in your hands and wrists can be relieved by your chiropractor with concentrated spinal and joint adjustments since they are all intertwined. If you believe you are suffering from any of the above carpal tunnel symptoms, click on our contact us page and let us help get you back on a carpal tunnel free future.
