Interferential Current Therapy

Interferential Current Therapy, or IFC, is an effective therapy option used to relieve pain and accelerate the self-healing process without the need of medication, getting the body back to a pain free state. This treatment is essentially a deeper form of electrical stimulation therapy, or EMS. In order to perform this method of treatment, electrodes are placed like a sticker to the skin around the injured area. These are tools that the patient can barely feel, so the comfort level of the person is never an issue. An Interferential Current device is then used, which basically transmits electrical impulses, just like EMS, throughout your skin and relays deeper into the problematic muscle. Underlying tissue and nerves become stimulated by the light electrical current, which begins the healing process and properties in the body. Not to worry, these impulses are not painful whatsoever and can be described as a minor prickle or tingling sensation on the skin. May of our clients who come in to receive IFC thereapy actually enjoy the relaxing feeling.

Interferential Current Therapy is used to treat mostly circulatory and muscular disorders like:

  • Stiff joints
  • Joint injuries
  • Edema
  • Inflammation
  • Muscle spasms
  • Reducing pain

There are many advantages to using IFC treatment for any of the above ailments. Some of these include:

  • Reduces or eliminates your pain safely.
  • Noticeable decrease in swelling and inflammation.
  • Restores lost movement and improves restricted movements and coordination.
  • Stimulates the natural hormones which can help your body heal faster.
  • Considered by many experts as a highly effective form of treatment for chronic pain.

Additionally, Interferential Current Therapy can also assist in blood circulation by stimulating endorphins within the body, which we all know as our own human body's natural pain relievers or healers. If you are someone who suffers from health problems such as cumulative trauma disorders, body pain, joint injuries, or are pre/post orthopedic surgery, IFC is a wonderful treatment option. Similarily to EMS, IFC also holds tons of success stories within our office. If the above sounds appealing to you and maybe this is something you would like to try to help speed up your personal recovery process, give our friendly Springs Chiropractic experts a call today.
